10 ERP Modules Every Manufacturing Company Needs

By the team at Simplovative Solutions

Manufacturing ERP requirements get reduced to generic lists — "sales, inventory, accounting" — that miss what actually connects a manufacturing business end to end. Here's a module-by-module breakdown of what we typically build for manufacturers, and what each one needs to actually do to be useful.

For a broader buyer's guide covering how to evaluate vendors, see ERP Software for Manufacturing Companies in India. This article focuses specifically on the modules themselves.

1. Enquiry & Quotation Management

Revenue is won or lost before production ever starts. This module captures enquiries, builds quotations from your actual product catalogue with correct pricing and GST, and tracks revisions until an order is confirmed — without your sales team calling someone every time they need to quote.

2. Sales Order Management

Once a quotation is accepted, it converts to a confirmed order with one click — no re-typing the same line items into a second system. Order status should be visible to sales, production, and dispatch simultaneously.

3. Purchase Orders & Vendor Management

Structured PO management with an approved vendor list, price history, and pending-delivery tracking. This is where most manufacturers have the least structure today — vendors contacted over WhatsApp, POs sent informally, no record of whether material actually arrived in the right quantity.

4. Inventory & Stock Control

Item-wise, location-wise stock tracking with reorder alerts. For manufacturers with raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods, stock needs to be tracked separately at each stage, not as one undifferentiated number.

5. Production & Phase Tracking

Each order is effectively a project with phases — design, procurement, fabrication, quality, dispatch. This module assigns owners to each phase, tracks progress, and surfaces bottlenecks in real time instead of at the end-of-week status meeting.

6. Quality Inspection & NCR

Inspection records at each stage — incoming material, in-process, final — with clear pass/fail outcomes. A Non-Conformance Report (NCR) system with photos and corrective actions replaces quality issues that would otherwise be raised verbally and forgotten.

7. Dispatch & Logistics

Dispatch planning, challan generation, and delivery tracking — linked to quality sign-off so the system can prevent dispatch of goods that haven't passed inspection.

8. GST Invoicing & Payment Tracking

Tax-compliant invoices generated directly from dispatch records, e-way bill generation, and e-invoicing where your turnover requires it — with payment tracking against each invoice so outstanding balances don't need a separate spreadsheet.

9. HR & Payroll

Attendance, leave, and payroll for shop-floor and office staff, tailored to your shift patterns and approval chains — useful once headcount grows past the point where a register and a spreadsheet can keep up.

10. Reports & Dashboards

Live KPIs — order pipeline, production status, outstanding payments, vendor performance — replacing the end-of-day Excel exports and the manager who spends three hours a week compiling a status report.

You Don't Need All 10 on Day One

Most manufacturers don't start with all ten modules. A common starting scope is enquiry-to-order, purchase, and dispatch — the modules that address the most acute pain first — with quality, HR, and advanced reporting added once the core system is adopted. A well-built platform is modular by design, so adding modules later shouldn't require rebuilding what's already working.
